Purpose:
Community Council is an organization in all of the residence halls. Its purposes are:

        • To serve as an open forum and common ground for staff and students
        • To proactively address center climate issues
        • To work with students to create programming and use resources already within the community
        • To help sponsor events and certain items: transportation, large equipment (over $500), tickets, conferences

        Who are we?
Community Council Chair (the Collins President or appointee), Director of Collins (Carl Ziegler), Residence Manager (Sara Ivey-Lucas), Environmental Operations Staff, Food Manager (Jim Beeson), Collins President, RA representative, 5 student reps from across Collins

        Meetings:
Every Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the coffeehouse

The Community Council funds programs that are student-directed, including many Q-projects, that do not fit under other councils' requirements or can apply to more than one of the other councils. We also fund transportation and approve all changes to any of the buildings.

CC approves the use of space in Collins, makes decisions about changes to the exterior or interior of the buildings, sets policies such as quiet hours, and makes decisions about the use of the Collins name.

        Some things we've funded:

        • Transportation to the Renaissance Fair and apple picking
        • Helped to fund United Way's Dance for Joy
        • Bulbs and shrubs for Collins exterior
        • Advertising for Self-Defense Workshop
        • Plastic paint for making coffeehouse tables

        Important Policies:
        • CC may fund 1/2 price or up to $10 on tickets to any event that is related to approved programming.
        • All transportation that involves automobiles must use an IU or IU-approved van for safety and insurance reasons.
        • Any charitable organization that receives help funding an event must reimburse Community Council for 1/2 the amount that Collins donates from the proceeds of the event.
        • To change the appearance of the building in any way, a copy of the design must be presented, and it must be approved by the residents of the floor (this can be done by a floor meeting and vote).
        • To use Collins equipment, you must make arrangements to work with a Collins representative.

        Before you come:
        • Fill out a pink project proposal sheet. You must state all of your funding sources.
        • To get space in Collins, you must fill out an Event Registration Form (available in the Duty Office).
        • Please be flexible with your plan and your funding needs.
